What is the GLL Sport Foundation?
GLL Sport Foundation has been established to assist the development and potential success of young sports people. The Foundation aims to reduce the financial burden of training and competition costs on talented young athletes, many of whom aspire to participate in the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. The Foundation will engage and recognise youth sport and support talented young athletes specifically within partner Boroughs where GLL operate sports facilities. The Foundation also seeks to assist coaches of youth sport by providing funding to increase coaching qualifications.
What are the aims of the Foundation?

- To promote the positive influence those successful young athletes can have on other young people within local communities
- To support coaches who positively promote sporting opportunity and development for young people.
Who is GLL? GLL is a staff-owned social enterprise and the largest single provider of public sport in London. With more than 20 million centre visits each year, GLL operates 65 leisure and sport facilities across 16 Boroughs in London and surrounding areas.
Why is GLL supporting young athletes? GLL seeks to inspire and motivate young people through sport. The Foundation aims to provide tangible help for young athletes to support them in achieving their full sporting potential and in promoting these athletes as positive role models within their local communities.
How do I qualify for an Award? The GLL Sport Foundation will work with Partners across 16 Boroughs in London and South East. Applicants must either either live or have a training base in a GLL operating Borough or facility and have long-term potential to succeed at an international level. Where GLL Borough Partners have an established Council-led talent identification and support initiative, the GLL Sport Foundation will work in partnership through or with this organisation.
Where is the GLL Sport Foundation available?
Support is available in the following boroughs and/or facilities:

How will athletes benefit? It is anticipated that over 800 young athletes and coaches will receive support in 2008. Financial grants ranging from £150-£2000 are available for athletes and coaches and memberships that provide free access to sport and leisure facilities currently managed by GLL.
What support is available for coaches? Financial support is available to assist coaches in increasing qualification levels and technical skills for the benefit of local sports clubs and athletes.
When will awards be made? All applications will be reviewed and considered early July 2008. Decisions will be made at GLL Sport Foundation Board mid July 2008. We will notify all applicants on the outcome of their application and those applicants selected for funding will receive their awards shortly after.
How will the funding be given? Financial awards will be given as an annual sum for 2008.
What sports is the Foundation supporting? Primarily the Foundation will look to support Olympic and Paralympic Sports, however applications will be considered from other sports recognised by UK Sport.
